As a second-year Computer Science student at Coventry University, I realized I didn’t want a typical 9-to-5 routine. I wanted a role that challenged my creativity and logic while fostering a healthy work-life balance. That’s why landing an internship at Roku felt incredible. From the first interview, the welcoming and friendly culture stood out.

I joined the DevOps team, focusing on integrating AI testing frameworks into CI/CD pipelines. My project involved creating a script to automate and optimize test runtimes by running only the necessary functional tests based on code changes. What made this work meaningful was knowing it could be integrated and remain useful beyond my internship. The exposure of working with AI-on-AI tools to support a real-world issue gave me the hands-on experience and researching drive that you just can’t get from a uni lecture.

The best part about the job, without a doubt, were the people. My teammates and colleagues were incredibly friendly and down-to-earth people that I felt welcomed and relaxed around to have my thoughts and ideas heard (The free snacks and coffee didn’t hurt either!).

If there was one downside, it was the short duration: three months felt too brief just as I was settling in.

The support I received along the 12 week period was amazing. Because of the feedback from my manager and the success of my project alongside my peers, I am thrilled to say I’ll be returning as a full-time Software Engineer in the summer of 2026. Roku is a place where interns get treated like future colleagues!
