Isabelle’s Early Career in Marketing at Siemens

After leaving university I was keen to begin a career in marketing but concerned that I wasn't going to have opportunities to push myself. When I saw the Siemens Mobility advert, I knew that this would be a place that would challenge me. I had no engineering or technical experience, so came into the business with completely fresh eyes, able to learn about an industry that I had never even really thought about.

My internship allowed me to work to establish myself as a ‘go-to’ person in my team. Whether that is helping to share a project that a team have worked tirelessly on, creating screen content for an event that could be used to engage customers, or helping to organise a learning event that our colleagues found useful. Having the opportunity to take a small message and share it with others and hopefully having an impact on those that see it, is the whole reason I am here.

Experiencing my first 'client' meeting in early June with a design agency was an amazing experience. It was an in-person workshop in which we discussed the feasibility of our plans and opened our eyes to what was possible within the project. I was there to engage and learn, but also to contribute, and one of my ideas was something that has now been incorporated into the brief and will make a big difference to the inclusivity of the project. This made me feel like my thoughts were valuable, and that I deserved to be in the team and at the table where decisions were being made.

I have become a lot more confident in my capabilities over the last year. My communication skills have improved, and I am not afraid to speak up now, even in a room of superiors. I also think my time at Siemens has made me a lot more open to new things.
