Chemical Engineer

Spirax Group plc

Please share a bit of background about you including your degree, where you heard about the programme and what made it attractive to you.

The first time I heard about the Spirax Group brand was in my Fluid Mechanics classes when learning about the Steam and Condensate Loop as my teacher talked about the products that the company manufacture and sell.

I heard about the programme by chance, from an alumni post on LinkedIn, and then I registered hoping to have my first job as an engineer - at that time I had one subject left until graduation and the thesis to deliver. I was so grateful to be selected and really appreciate the investment in both our personal and professional development.

What rotations have you done on the programme so far & how has each benefitted your development? If this is your first rotation, please share what you are hoping to do next and why.

My first placement was in the Spirax Sarco Argentina Sales team where I focussed on Business Development. I worked on a new version of the Action Plan for BD, where I saw how the Growth Programmes are deployed in the reality, developed training to Sales Engineers and undertook several customer visits and meetings, to understand how we do business.

The second placement was in our Supply Manufacturing Site within ESMU (Engineered Services Manufacturing Unit), where I coordinated the daily processes with the supervisor and planning, logistics, procurement and sales teams to enable us to deliver our solutions to our customers before 30 days (achieving with the team a milestone of 15 days delivery). We were able to implement a new version of our Pressure reducing Stations, which allowed for a 30% reduction in costs, allowing us to be more competitive as a whole business.

What is your current role & what does a typical day look like for you?

My third and current rotation is based in the Group Digital team at Charlton House - our group Headquarters in Cheltenham, England, where not only I'm learning from a different culture, but also gaining a panoramic perspective of the global approach to our business, and how we are developing and deploying one of our key strategic initiatives to benefit both customers and the business internally.

All of my placements have helped me to understand the business better, including delivery expectations, time management, internal and external stakeholder management, project management and the importance of customer obsession!

How has the culture in your OpCo allowed you to make difference or have an impact?

I feel very inspired by the culture within Spirax Group. I always tell my friends how much I enjoy the flexibility within my workplace, and how I feel empowered to do a great job. I really enjoy my work and being part of the organisation and the Global Graduate Leadership Development Programme.
