The Guardian UK 300: top construction, civil engineering and surveying employers

…as voted for by students and graduates

The Guardian UK 300 features the largest and most comprehensive annual survey of student opinion on graduate careers, employers and their own job hunts. The survey determines not only the most popular 300 graduate employers in the UK overall, but also the most popular graduate employers in a range of career sectors, including construction.

The top graduate employers for construction, civil engineering and surveying are listed in the table below. This year, the top six employers remain unchanged. Interestingly, the top four employers are engineering consultancies rather than construction contractors.

Students interested in construction, civil engineering or quantity surveying careers…

  • tended to agree with the statement ‘It is more important to be fulfilled at work than to earn lots of money’, at 73% – a higher proportion than those interested in most other sectors
  • tended to have completed work experience related to their university course (77%)
  • would prefer to engage with employers through academic guest lectures (72%), stands at careers fairs (67 per cent) and on-campus careers workshops (59%).*

*Statistics have been rounded.

Over 62,000 undergraduates took part in the trendence Graduate Study 2017, which formed the basis of the results in The Guardian UK 300 .
